COFFEEHOUSE 2019 Winter Line Up
- MARCH 8 – JUST DUETS
JUST DUETS is Andrea Smith and Dave Lidstone in a musical collaboration of wonderful sibling-like vocal harmonies with solid guitar accompaniment. Their early influences included masterful duets such as Ian & Sylvia Tyson, Tim & Molly O'Brien, and Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings. Over time they have developed their own vocal blend and a repertoire that is more broadly researched. Their 2016 CD release “Rivers & Creeks” followed a 2007 release called "Get On Board". Both these projects reflect their choice of a repertoire consisting of songs of life and love that reflect a commitment to social justice, to Canadian roots, and to poetry in song.
- MARCH 22 – FRASER UNION
A folk institution with great songs, harmony, instrumentation, and an expectation that you will join the choruses. Hear about BC's history and its songs, too. Now with Kathy Griffin, too.
- APRIL 12 - WILLY BLIZZARD
The Willy Blizzard Band looks forward to a return to Crossroads. (John Hough on guitar and vocals, Andrea Law on upright bass and Fran Madigan on electric guitar). This season they are promoting their new album of original songwriting “Armadillo Road” which was released in late Fall. As a returning artist, Willy Blizzard will deliver an indie roots show of great grooves and vocal harmonies to raise a little dust.
- APRIL 26 - GARY POOLE
Gary Poole is a songwriter with an eye and ear for the journeys of our lives. His songs explore a world that is sometimes wildly complex and sometimes beautifully simple. In the early stages of his career,Gary was a creative force behind the group Marilyn, Hudson, Carr and Poole, writing their hit singles “For Today” and "Is It Any Wonder?" Today, Gary is writing and performing with the same passion that defined him back then. His latest writing, featured in the collection “Songs for a Curious World,” runs the full gamut from grandchildren to the nature of truth in today's world.
- MAY 10 - FRIENDLY FOLK
A mix. A mash. A medley. The Other Will and Kate with Friends.
- MAY 24 - MAD FOR JOY
A blend of roots and blues, folk and jazz, Mad For Joy is a dynamic duo of Gabriola Island musicians, Jocelyn Hallett and Adam Kerby. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes rip-roarin', their songs have harmonizing guitars, voices, keyboards, and a sprinkling of trumpet. Riding the rails, they have toured across Canada by train three times, playing to passengers onboard. They have a new album coming out called 'Garden of the Muse'.
